(ABC 6 News)- In September, Albert Lea High School promoted assistant wrestling coach Andy Hackenmueller to the head coaching position. However, that contract offer has been withdrawn.
Hackenmueller was an assistant coach for the Albert Lea Tigers wrestling team for the past two and a half years. According to the Activities Director of Albert Lea High School, the head coaching position has been offered to Paul Durbahn, a current teacher and baseball coach at the high school.
Hackenmueller is charged with public intoxication for an incident that took place earlier this month. According to court records, he and two others were "ejected" from Diamond Jo Casino in Northwood, Iowa for being intoxicated. Court documents state the Worth County Sheriff's office was called because they were going to drive.
The responding deputy said surveillance video shows Hackenmueller drinking in the parking lot of the casino.
According to the Worth County Sheriff’s office, Hackenmueller blew a .152.
Albert Lea Superintendent Dr. Mike Funk released a statement writing, "As the result of a recent investigation, Area Schools has withdrawn its offer to Andy Hackenmueller to be Albert Lea High School’s Head Wrestling Coach. Mr. Hackenmueller will not be associated with the program in any manner.
Paul Durbahn, a teacher and coach at Albert Lea High School has been offered the position to be head coach of the wrestling team.
We expect that Coach Durbahn will uphold the high standards we have come to expect in our historically successful ALHS Wrestling program."
