(ABC 6 News) -- Two teens are facing charges after allegedly assaulting two Rochester Police Officers.
According to Captain John Sherwin, two Rochester officers were called to assist with a report of a missing 16-year-old on Tuesday, October 3. Around 3 p.m., the officers met an Olmsted County Sheriff’s Deputy at the Extended Stay America on Woodlake Drive in SE Rochester. The deputy was working with staff at the hotel who said they had reason to believe the juvenile was in one of their rooms.
Officers were able to locate the 16-year-old, along with a 17-year-old male in one of the hotel rooms, said Captain Sherwin. The 17-year-old was noncompliant, said Captain Sherwin, and the 16-year-old had locked herself in the bathroom.
One officer handcuffed the 17-year-old, who then “head-butted” the officer in the face, said Captain Sherwin, giving the officer a bloody nose. The officer who was trying to get the 16-year-old out of the bathroom called upon hotel maintenance to open the door. When the officer was apprehending the teen, she began to scratch the officer’s arms, said Captain Sherwin.
The teens were taken to Many Rivers Juvenile Detention center. The 17-year-old is facing charges of felony fourth-degree assault and obstructing the legal process with force. The 16-year-old is facing a gross misdemeanor charge of obstruction.
